PEOPLE & CLIMATE

PEPOLE: The Bahamas, still very much steeped in its traditional British heritage, are inhabited by people of all races including Africans, Europeans, and East Indians. Bahamians are known for their friendly and outgoing personalities. You cannot miss the always cheerful "good day man," the happy smile and the eagerness to help with an almost native genuineness and a desire to please. The language spoken in the islands is English. However, the old language has been shaped and reshaped over more than 300 years by a potpourri of cultures of which the British and Caribbean have had major influence. Some say the Bahamian accent is decidedly West Indian, others say it has a sound of its own. Whatever, the sound, the warm Bahamian smile speaks the language of the heart!

CLIMATE: The trade winds that blow almost continuously in the island create a warm breezy climate that varies little throughout the year. August through mid-September, when the temperature averages 70 - 75 degrees, is the most refreshing time to visit. Avoid traveling in May & June as it is considered to be the rainy season in the Bahamas.
